Genesis is probably my favorite part of the bible. I used to think it was so ridiculous. I mean, come on. God makes two immortal beings, puts them in a confined space, and tells them they can do basically whatever they want except mess with the tree of knowledge. They're in there for all eternity. They're gonna eat the damn fruit. And then God can pop out of the bushes and yell 'Gotcha!' ... Seriously? The sad thing is that this shallow, paper-thin interpretation is more or less the one accepted by a lot of Christians. Which scares me. How can you look around you and see all this complexity and beauty, and think that THOSE are our origins? That that is the kind of God who made and controls everything?

But I've mulled it over a bit. I honestly believe that most of the big (and many not-so-big) religions were founded by people who had genuine moments of enlightenment. This is one interpretation I've been thinking about lately, inspired by something I read in 'Autobiography of a Yogi'.

The tree of knowledge is a metaphor for the human nervous system. Each branch and root is part of a network that transports nutrients to the "fruit" (or information to the brain). Eve’s eating of the fruit symbolizes the consuming of the ‘brain,’ taking on the human perspective and the form that went with it. (You are what you eat.) The fruit could also represent human genitals; fruit after all has a lot to do with reproduction, and it shares a lot of features with the reproductive apparatus in humans. Original sin, eating the fruit and gaining the "knowledge of good and evil" isn't necessarily a sin, really. I see it as sort of... choosing the human form, letting one's higher self be confined by the limitations of the human body. Limitations of perception and of love.

Strolls taken during the witching hours of foggy winter nights
misty, haloed streetlamp orbs line up the glistening pavement.
I walk, clouded breath, hands in pockets
while the city dreams.

Somewhere to the East the dawn rumbles and rolls onward
Bringing the clash and noise of the day
But for now
in this soft, quiet moment
the world belongs to me.

Been playing my sax lately, and I gotta admit it. I'm still pretty damn good. :D

Going to go see avatar tonight. Well, this morning ...2am at the metreon. Bahahaha

Being home is great, but there is too much damn food! I've been playing tons of video games and just vegging... Go running, Aaron. Jeez.

And in the end the love you take...

The ghost of Dean Moriarty on his leash bouncing to and fro, looking here, there, and nowhere, and screaming "I'm late I'm late I'm late!" ...Dragging me down that rabbit hole once again.

Life's still a combination of shit hitting the fan and sunshine through the window. God gives you lemons, but sugar too. Lemonade makes my teeth hurt.

I need to start stacking that paper. I need a real job again.

I don't know what to get anyone for the holidays! Agh.

The end is just another beginning, but this is the beginning of the end.

I'm still in limbo with a lot of things, and a bit tense. But you know what? Screw all the nail biting and stressing out over all this stuff. The world is my oyster and one way or another I'm going to crack that motherfucker wide open. Regardless.
